In a rare pre-announcement Google has stated that site design will make a difference in getting to Page One:
- WHAT: #2 in Google’s three “web core vitals”: First Input Delay (FID). This measures responsiveness and quantifies the experience users feel when trying to first interact with a page. An ideal measurement is less than 100 seconds.
- WHEN: Sometime in 2021. Delayed due to COVID
- WHERE: All internet websites including mobile and desktop version—yours included.
- WHY: To provide a better user experience (UX) for Google’s customers.
This is very technical and we understand that, but you should be mindful of a change in Google’s overall assessment of websites. Heretofore, it has all been about Content.
Now we see a shift: Google is interested in how you design your site and how its customers, the users of its search engine, are able to interact with your site. Google will rank the best performing sites based on FID.
